Destiny always brings people to places where they are meant to be. Eventually. This statement is most apt for Dr. Albert D’Souza, a dedicated doctor hailing from the temple city of Bhubaneshwar, Odisha. His six-footer frame appears overpowering for few seconds but his kindheartedness, mannerisms, patience and gentleness leaves a lasting impression upon his patients within minutes. Blessed with magical hands he is a human carpenter at best. With every screw or plate, he places in broken bones he does it with expert precision to return the body to its natural functional realignment. Clear cut in his demeanor, punctual, with a focused clinical acumen he is a boon to his patients. His proficiency shows up in his work that he has been doing in this area for a while without bothering to proclaim fame.
He received a Certificate of honor for meritorious service” for cyclone relief work in Odisha in the year 1999 as a member of medical relief team. He battled similar cyclone in his own life having been diagnosed with Leukemia (blood cancer) in the year 2014 and underwent a bone marrow transplant successfully. Cancer struggle may have weakened his body but did little to dampen his spirit as he returned to active work within a year. He is cancer free today and is an inspiration to many in similar battles. His cancer has only rewarded him with more compassion and empathy for those who need him. He offered himself freely to the ailing elderly and immobile patients who could not be visit hospital/clinics because of practical difficulties in transportation in the Corona Pandemic and has extended his services to house visits to help, treat and cure.
Dr. D’Souza has been an active team member in the Arthroplasty unit (joint replacement) for 8 years in Max Super Specialty hospital, Saket, Delhi under the mentorship of Dr S.K.S. Marya, (a world-renowned arthroplasty surgeon) in different capacities. He is currently with Dept of Orthopedics at Sharda Hospital, Greater Noida where he is actively involved in teaching, training research and operative work.
